A group of Tourists narrowly survived being killed by gangsters who had descended on them with the aim of robbing them off their valuables and money.

This was revealed on Wednesday, 13th December, 2023 by Denis Otim, one of the staff at Mt Elgon National Park Conservation Area during a security meeting which was held at Lwakhakha Town Council.

Otim said the unfortunate incident occurred last week where the tourists were only rescued by Game Rangers who fired live bullets in the air to disperse the thugs.

Otim condemned the incident saying it may scare away tourists from Uganda.

He said that there are some people armed with guns especially at Bumasobo located in Bulambuli district and Bukyabo located in Sironko district who are believed to be cattle thieves who have camped in Mount Elgon National Park with the aim of robbing tourists.

Otim urged security leaders from the districts neighbouring Mount Elgon National Park to tighten security around that area as people head to Christmas.

Imran Muluga, the Namisindwa Resident District Commissioner says that starting next week, they are going to put security officers to patrol Mt Elgon park area in the sub counties of Bumbo, Bukokho, Tsekululu among others to trap those gangsters.
