MBALE CITY
A 22 year old boda boda rider and resident of Namanyonyi Ward, Northern City Division, Mbale City has died on the spot after being knocked by a speeding truck.
The accident that took place on the night of Monday, 18th December, 2023 at Afia Trading Center in Namunsi claimed the life of Latifu Mafuko leaving others with serious injuries.
The accident involved Mafuko’s boda boda motorcycle red in color bajaji boxer number UFZ 884E and a Mercedes Benz Actros truck registration Number, SSD 854T/SSD 991T.
According to Moses Mutabingwa, the Elgon region OC traffic police, the Mercedes Benz Actros was moving at a high speed from Kumi to Mbale direction and on reaching AFIA, knocked Mafuko, the rider of the motorcycle, killing him on the spot.
Mutabingwa also says that Mafuko who emerged from a Feeder road of Namabasa, joined the road abruptly and was knocked, thereafter, the truck lost control and injured other people who were by the roadside.
He said that the cause of the accident was over speeding by the truck driver and careless riding by the deceased.
By press time, police had taken the body to Mbale city mortuary for post-mortem while the motorcycle is at Mbale CPS. The truck driver is on the run and those who got injured are at Mbale Regional referral hospital.
