Uganda’s support from donors is expected to drop from Shs2.781Trn in 2023/24 to merely Shs28.94Bn in the coming budget of 2024/25 signifying slightly above 98% decrease.
This was revealed by Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development officials who were appearing before Parliament’s Budget Committee today, 12th January, 2024.
Led by State Minister for Finance, Hon. Musasizi Henry and Ramathan Ggobi, the Paramagnet Secretary and Secretary to Treasury, the officials submitted documents to that effect.
On Thursday, Minister of Health, Jane Aceng warned that donor funding to the health sector is expected to drop by 49%, although, she declined attributing the drop in donor funding to the passing of the Anti-Homosexuality Act.
Documents from the Ministry of Finance indicate that in 2024/25 Gov’t expects Shs857.876Bn, which donor support will then increase to Shs1.085T.
Meanwhile, Ggoobi has assured Ugandans that despite the public debt having hit Shs97Trn as reported by the Auditor General, Uganda is sustainable and can secure more loans, unlike some nations in Africa that have been blacklisted in the credit market.
