Residents of Sironko living along Nalugugu-Budadiri road have a reason to smile with information coming that compensations are going to kick off before the end of January, 2024.

Construction of the 34.6 kilometre road of Nalugugu-Budadiri road located at Sironko district was supposed to have kicked off last year but locals who were mapped within the road reserves refused to vacate claiming that they want to be compensated first.

This gave Sironko district and Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) hard time to start work prompting them to look for money to compensate the affected residents before assumption of works.

While speaking to our reporter in an exclusive interview at his office on Friday, 12th January, 2024, David Livingstone Giluli, the LCV chairperson of Sironko district says that based on the meeting they had with UNRA on Thursday, 11th January, they have agreed to start paying people before the end of this month such that work starts.

He urged gazetted registered people to go and open bank accounts such that the government can deposit their money since the compensation will not be in hard cash.

Andrew Wasukira, the district acting engineer says that the government has earmarked 129 billion shillings to do that work and the contract has been given to Shandong Luqiao contractor.

Sasaga Wanzira, Member of Parliament repenting Budadiri east constituency in Sironko district has urged locals in the area to embrace the work saying this road is going to help farmers in the sub counties like Masaba, Bugitimwa, Zesui among others to transport their agricultural products to Mbale town.
