A total of twenty one angry councilors in Kongunga town council in Bukedea district have today 15th, Jan 2024, taken action to lock the office of the town clerk, Emmanuel Elimu.
According to the councilors, the accused officer is incompetent and corrupt.
Hellen Akurut, the town council speaker together with other councilors said the town clerk office cannot be opened until they get a new town clerk.
“Last year we demostrated to the district demanding Mr Elimu to be transferred but we were told to hold up to this year, as a council we have resolved to lock him out of the office”, said Akurut.
Emmanuel Elimu, the accused town clerk when reached for a comment, says the councilors took an illegal action to lock his office without his knowledge.
He said the issue which was in the council was resolved and harmonized so where the councilors got their anger of locking him out of office he is not aware.
“I am here at Kachumbala police station making a statement because I don’t know who locked my office and what they have taken from my office”, said Mr Elimu.
Mr Gabriel Ejukat, Kongunga town council LC 3 chairperson when contacted on phone said he is unaware of the councilors action.
“I am green about what’s taking place am just organizing to visit the office”, said Ejukat.
Mary Akol, the Bukedea district chairperson when reached for a comment confirmed that Kongunga town council has been having grudges over the town clerk’s actions.
” we have a meeting over the same issue but am now engaging RDC and CAO in order to calm down the situation”, said Ms Akol.
However, getting a comment from CAO Bukedea was futile.
