Late last year, President Museveni sent a list of Electoral Commissioners to the Speaker of Parliament for approval/vetting.
That list that became public early this month had, Chairman, Justice Simon Byabakama, Vice-Chair Aisha Lubega, and members as; Hon. Stephen Tashobya, Dr. Sallie Simba Kayunga, Anthony Okello, Pamela Etonu Okudi and Robert Kasule Ssebunya.
However, a leaked today’s 16th January, 2024 Agenda of the Parliament Appointments Committee shows that Pamela Etonu Okudi and Robert Kasule Ssebunya have been dropped.
Instead, Emorut James Peter has been re-appointed and Caroline Bainamaryo appointed in the place of Okudi Etonu Pamela.
The Parliament Appointments Committee headed by the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Anitah Among interacted with the nominees this morning, beginning with Emorut.
Then Justice Byabakama, Vice-Chair Aisha Lubega Basajjanaku, Tashobya, Okello Anthony, Simba Ssali, and Bainamaryo, in that order.
Reasons for the President’s change of heart are not yet in the public domain.
