Uganda Secondary School Sports Association Trains Referees, Ampires

Uganda Secondary School Sports Association has trained over 100 referees and ampires from eastern region on how to officiate matches ahead of the upcoming secondary school matches.


The one week training which ended today Friday, 19th January, 2024 was conducted at Mbale secondary school located at Industrial city division in Mbale city.


While speaking during the closure of the training, Isaiah Sasaga Wanzira, the chairperson of Uganda secondary school sports association Bugisu region said that they wanted to equip referees and ampires with enough skills to properly officiate school matches.


He adds that they have been getting challenges in previous school games with lack of competence among some referees and ampires which has prompted them to equip them with more skills.


Moses Buyela, the head teacher Mbale secondary school has expressed his happiness with the training saying this is going to reduce conflicts during games due to unprofessional officiation of matches by referees and ampires.


He also warned them against involving in corruption and betting which willmay destroy their professionalism.


Phiona Nakayenze, one of the two trainees and a teacher at Sironko parents secondary school located at Sironko town council in Sironko district promised to use this knowledge while conducting her work as an ampire.
