The National Unity Platform (NUP) Party President, Robert Kyagulanyi a.k.a Bobi Wine has spoken to the media about his escape from his Magere home which was surrounded by security throughout the NAM Summit.
Speaking at his Magere Home today, 23rd January, 2024, Bobi Wine while responding to Sudhir Byaruhanga’s question about how he escaped from his home said he had to change into a cat.
“Haven’t you heard of people changing into cats? Can I change into a cat now, can I change?” He teased, before adding that in the 1980’s, somebody used to turn into a cat in order to evade security.
It also remains unclear whether the person he referred to as ‘who used to change into a cat’ in the 1980’s is President Museveni or the late UNLA Army Commander, David Oyite Ojok.
“So I also became a cat in order to evade security,” he said in a manner that left journos wondering whether he was serious about what he was saying or he was just making fun of the whole saga.
Bobi Wine was among the leading opposition leaders that were forced into preventive house arrest ahead of their planned demonstrations over the poor state of roads in Kampala. Those barricaded inside their homes were Dr. Kizza Besigye and Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago.
However, on Saturday, while his Magere home was surrounded by security personnel, Bobi Wine made a daring escape and was to be seen in downtown Kampala before speeding away on a boda boda rider.
Since then, he has been operating outside his home, visiting places including Jinja.
