A police officer attached to Petta Police Post found in Petta Sub-County Tororo District has shot to death his Superior, the In-Charge Petta Police post.
According to a police statement issued by the Bukedi South Police Spokesperson today 1st February, 2024, Sgt Ochom William Francis aged 58 years shot his boss, IP Okwele Moses, the OC Petta Police post after a quarrel related to a gun.
Mugwe says, the incident happened inside Petta Police post at about 11:00PM after the two picked a quarrel over the gun Sgt Ochom was holding.
It’s alleged that the pair were seated together before the incident happened on the night of 31/01/2024 at around 11:00PM at Petta Police Post.
In the process, the two exchanged bullets with Ochom pumping about four bullets in Okwele’s stomach killing him instantly. Ochom who is currently admitted at Tororo General Hospital sustained gunshot injuries on his legs.
A Report was registered at Tororo CPS SD REF: 06/01/02/2024 and later entered in CRB 112/2024.
The Scene of crime was visited and documented by SOCO and Team of Homicide detectives commanded by the DPC Tororo.
Meanwhile, statements were recorded from relevant witnesses and the suspect and exhibits of four (04) cartridges two (02) SMG Rifles for the deceased and that of the suspect, were recovered from the scene.
The body of the deceased was conveyed to Tororo Main Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
“The body of Okwele was found lying down on spinal position while dressed in a black trouser, blue shirt, and a black belt on barefoot,” Mugwe says.
The body was well nourish with bullet wounds in the stomach and the left fingers and was found in a pool of blood. Inquiries into this matter are still ongoing, more updates to follow.
