UPDF, Chinese Firm Launch Manufacture of Automobile Filters in Mbale Industrial Park

National Enterprise Cooperation (NEC) the Ministry of Defence business arm in conjunction with WATU-China have today Thursday, 1st February, 2024 launched a filter manufacturing plant in Mbale Industrial Park in Mbale City.

 

The NEC Managing Director, General James Mugira and the State Minister Of Defense Hon Jacob Markson Oboth were in attendance during the launch. They first had a brief tour of the plant.

 

This is a joint venture between the government of Uganda under UPDF and a Chinese company WATU. The factory is producing all types of automobile filters and air filters.

 

General James Mugira said that every day that pass by, Uganda is gaining strength in the automobile technology.

 

“Today Uganda has commissioned the first filter factory in the country,” Gen. Mugira revealed.

The factory that is based at the Sino Uganda Mbale Park is going to produce over one 1,500,000 filters annually.  He also added that Ugandans should expect quality products from this filter plant.

 

WATU China Chairman Liu Qingshan said that this is phase one of the technology. He pledged to use his 40 years experience in the automobile Industry to benefit Ugandans.

 

Presiding over the commissioning, the State Minister for Defence hailed the Chinese company for the cooperation saying it is going to transfer knowledge to Ugandans. Oboth advised WATU management to aim higher in investing in Uganda as there are more potential opportunities. He therefore called on Ugandans to embrace Buy Uganda Build Uganda policy.
