A man moving around the country conducting workshops at a fee claiming to be the original author of the Lower Secondary Competence based curriculum has been unmasked.
According to National Curriculum Development Center, (NCDC), the man by the name of Isaac Lirwana is taking advantage of unsuspecting Secondary Schools head teachers and other stakeholders.
In a statement issued on 1st February, 2024, NCDC says Lirwana who is conducting workshops on Competence-based Curriculum is actually teaching what is contrary and contradicts the official guidelines set by NCDC and the Ministry of Education and Sports.
Dr. Richard Irumba, the Ag Director NCDC says that they have never worked with Lirwana in any capacity in Curriculum related matters.
“NCDC distances herself from the Workshops organized and facilitated by him,” says Dr. Irumba in the February 1st 2024 statement.
Dr. Irumba further warns that Lirwana’s actions pose a great risk to the implementation of the Lower Secondary Competence-based Curriculum.
“This serves to warn the general public, and Secondary schools in particular that anyone who deals with Lirwana or his close associates does so at their own risk,” warns Dr. Irumba.
A brief search on Lirwana’s background shows that he has taught mathematics for a period of 28 years and author of Active mathematics with Oxford University.
One activity on LinkedIn shows that Lirwana was in Mengo S.S last week training teachers on CBC (Competence Based Curriculum).
“Training teachers in CBC at Mengo S.S, this was the grace of God. The school has existed for 129 years,” he wrote on his LinkedIn timeline six days ago.
