Police in Bungokho are stranded with a two year old baby boy who was abandoned by his mother in Sakiya village sugar cane plantation, Bubirabi parish, Bungokho Sub County in Mbale District.
The baby was found by a wife to the defence secretary of Sakiya village when she was going to her garden.
Chris Mafabi, the chairman LC 3 Bungokho sub county says they received information at 6pm, Tuesday 6th, February, 2024 regarding a child found crying alone in the sugarcane plantation.
“The baby is still at the police post and we suspect the mother decided to dump him after failing to care for him,”Mafabi said.
However, the senior probation and welfare officer Mbale district, Nabifo Immaculate says the hunt is on for the unknown mother of the baby.
Statistics at the child and family protection unit indicates that a total of 2 to 4 children ranging from one to two years have been abandoned in Mbale since January this year.
