The Ministry of Education and Sports is putting into place an arrangement that will allow Candidates wishing to repeat S.4 under the old lower secondary curriculum.
This was revealed by the Minister, Mama Janet Museveni while officially releasing the 2023 UCE results today, 15th February, 2024 at State House Nakasero.
The S.4 Candidates of 2023 were the last batch to be examined under the old lower secondary curriculum meaning that the 2024 S.4 Candidates are going to be examined under the New Competency-based curriculum.
This has left many parents and students worried about what would happen for those students who will have failed the 2023 UCE Exams and wish to repeat.
However, Janet Museveni said that the Ministry has agreed that learners repeating S.4 in 2024 based on the old curriculum need ample time to prepare to retake the UCE.
“We have looked at all considerations and come to the agreement that no learner who is repeating S.4 under the old lower secondary curriculum shall be disadvantaged in our transitional arrangements,” she said.
She revealed further that UNEB will soon release a roadmap to the public to enable those who are in need of repeating to register.
This is going to be the only opportunity for students to repeat S.4 and sit for UCE under the old lower secondary curriculum.
“Therefore, I encourage all candidates willing to repeat to use this single window of opportunity to register once UNEB releases the road map and makes the announcement,” Janet Museveni said.
Meanwhile, at the official release of UCE 2023 Results, UNEB Executive Director, Dan Odongo said “Performance in the sciences continues to be a cause for concern, with less than 20 per cent of the candidates obtaining Credit pass levels in Physics and Chemistry, and 40 per cent or more unable to pass. It is worth noting, however, the upturn in performance in Biology, which has been recording a steady decline.”
