A mother of four children in Sironko district has surprised many by scoring 17 aggregates passing in Division One during Uganda Certificate of Education [UCE] Exams of 2023.
Sarah Nafuna aged 30 years, a resident of Mutufu Town Council sat her UCE examination at Sironko Parents under registration number U2031/047.
While speaking to our reporter in an exclusive interview after the release of national examination results on Thursday, 15th February, 2024, Nafuna said that she dropped out of School in 2010 after getting pregnant.
Nafuna is currently a married woman also one of the prominent businesswomen dealing in agriculture input at Mbale city.
She said that it was by accident as a girl child that she got pregnant while in senior one at Budadiri girls located at Budadiri town council in Sironko district which killed her dreams.
‘’In effort to fulfill my dreams, I joined senior one class at Sironko parents until last year when I sat my senior four national examinations,” Nafuna said.
‘’I appeal to all younger mothers not to bury their future by not continuing with studies, if there is a chance, they should go ahead and complete their education like me such that they have a bright future,’’ Madam Nafuna said.
Nafuna narrated that ‘’I’m very happy for passing in first grade and I’m going to senior five this year to do BCA combination since I did well in sciences such that my dream of becoming an Agriculturist will be realized.”
Yofesi Malenga, the Sironko Parents Academic Registrar also Bukisa sub county to district councillor says that Nafuna was one of their best students in the school and the district at large in 2023 UCE results.
He says that she got 4 aggregates in English, 1 in CRE, 2 in History, 6 in Geography, 2 in Mathematics, 3 in agriculture, 4 in Physics, 1 in Chemistry, 3 in Biology and 1 in commerce totalling 17 aggregates in division 1.
‘’Nafuna has been one of the students who has been disciplined and has been performing well in end of term exams throughout his time of being at Sironko parents,’’ Mr. Malenga said.
‘’I urge all girls who dropped out during Covid 19 pandemic to go back to school and finish their studies so that they have a bright future,’’ Mr. Malenga said.
Isaiah Sasaga Wanzira, director of Sironko parents also doubling as Member of Parliament representing Budadiri east constituency expressed his happiness with the performance saying this must be an example to other girls who dropped out of school.
