A 23-year-old man identified as Stephen Okwi also known as sugar, a resident of Kokutu village in Bukedea Sub County in Bukedea district has this afternoon 21st, Feb 2024 hacked his brother’s wife to death.

The incident happened after Okwi’s phone battery blew off after a solar system was over charged.

The scuffle also left his father Michael Imalingat and grandmother Rose Atino injured.

Simon Elungat, the Kokutu local council one chairperson identified the deceased as Joyce Acham a mother of a four-month baby.

“Okwi’s phone battery was charging on solar but after his battery blew off, he started fighting his father, so in the process, the brother’s wife ran to rescue the father in-law, he then hacked her head and died on spot”said Mr. Elungat.

Both his father Michael Imalingat and grandmother Rose Atino are currently admitted at Bukedea health Centre IV for treatment.

Ms. Winny Abwate, one of the eye witnesses, told this publication that Okwi used the hand hoe for hitting Acam’s forehead which resulted in internal bleeding leading to her death.

“We are shocked as the community because this is happening for the first time for a man killing the brother’s wife”, said Ms. Abwate.

However, Mr. Richard Asiimwe the bukedea district police commander confirmed his arrest saying the dead body is pending for postmortem.

“As police we managed to intervene and arrested Okwi as we arranged the body of the deceased for postmortem”, said Mr. Asiimwe.
