SIRONKO: NRM District Councilors Humiliate FDC in New Committee Chairpersons Appointments

SIRONKO

The Sironko District National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party Councilors have humiliated the FDC Party Councilors in the new appointments for Committee Chairpersons.

This was witnessed in the Approval of Committee Chairpersons on Tuesday, 20th February, 2024 at Sironko District Headquarters.

According to the Local Government Act, committee chairpersons’ term is two and a half years and in Sironko, the appointments and approval of new ones took place yesterday.

However, during the proposal, Acidic Wetaka, councilor representing workers and subscribing to NRM proposed four replacements and all of them NRM Members.

They are; Deo Nabugodi, councilor representing Masaba Sub County as chairperson Works and Technical Services Committee, Yofwesi Malenga representing Bukisa Sub County as Chairperson Social Services, Sam Madoi Youth Male Councilor as Chairperson Production, and Jane Nabukwasi representing workers as chairperson Finance.

Efforts by Paulo Nangoli, councilor representing Buhugu Sub County and member of FDC to seek indulgence of the Speaker to have an amicable position of sharing the Committees 50-50 were shot down by the Speaker.

Since FDC councilors are a minority at the LCV Council, they decided to march out in protest saying the appointments were carried out in an irregular and shameful manner.

However, after FDC marching out, the Speaker called the house in order and approval process of names proposed continued.

Herbert Musika, Secretary for Social Services also doubling as Councilor representing Nalusala sub County expressed his bitterness with the exercise saying this shows that their NRM colleagues are serving the interests of their district party chairperson, Suleiman Lumolo other than the people who elected them.

He says that they have information that NRM councilors first had a closed door meeting with their district NRM chairperson at district NRM office before coming for council where they arranged all their plans.

Musika says that their aim is to fight the leadership of Livingston Gilulu, the LCV chairperson since he is of FDC warning that it may not be as easy as they think.

Ali Madoi, councilor representing Buyobo Sub County subscribing to NRM Party however, rubbished the allegation that they are bent on fighting the leadership of LCV chairperson saying the problem is that they are the majority in Council whereby they have an upper hand when it comes to voting on anything.

He says that they never had any meeting before council sitting saying as NRM councilors they still have lots of issues he didn’t mention which the current district political wing has to iron out with them.

Madoi adds that they intentionally denied FDC a position such that they can feel their strength and power.

Previously, Works and technical service chairperson was Deo Nabugodi representing Masaba sub county NRM, Social services chairperson was Robert Nagibumba representing Bumalimba sub county FDC, Production was headed by Dison Balayo representing Sironko town council NRM and Finance committee chairperson was Fred Gidongo representing Busamaga sub county FDC.
