The Busita Sub County Local Council Three Chairperson and his accomplice have been arraigned in Sironko Chief Magistrate’s Court and remanded to Prison.
According to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, Mukota Patrick Bernard and Nambozo Hellen were arrested following earlier investigations into the alleged mismanagement of PDM funds in Sironko District.
The duo was charged with unauthorized use or interception of computer services and theft on Tuesday, 27th February, 2024 thereby joining Magomu Eddy, who had been previously apprehended.
The accused and their accomplices, who are still at large, utilized a SIM card registered under Magomu Eddy’s name to fraudulently obtain Shs5M from the PDM Wendi App accounts of five victims. The victims reported this matter to the RDC Sironko, who forwarded it to the PDM Secretariat who requested the State House Anti-Corruption Unit to investigate the matter.
They were remanded to Mutufu government prison until 21st March, 2024 when they will reappear in court for mention of their case and probable bail application.
Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson confirmed the arrest of the duo.
Last week, Eddy Magomu who hacked into the system was picked by police from Mbale town where he was hiding from and was arraigned in Sironko magistrate court and remanded to Mutufu prison until 21st March, 2024.
Ephraime Denis Balwaniregha, the Sironko Resident District Commissioner also confirmed the incident saying the three will pay back the money before coming out or serving imprisonment.
