An unfortunate incident turned into drama when residents of Kibutunya village, Bunamulingi parish, Bukokho Sub County in Namisindwa District chose to flog a body of a 64 year old man who had committed suicide by hanging.
The incident happened today, Wednesday 6th March, 2024 after residents found one of their own, Defasi Kusumbati hanging dead on a tree in his compound after allegedly having a misunderstanding with his wife.
Before the police arrived on the scene, locals caned the body claiming that it was a traditional way of cleansing the person who commits suicide by hanging such that they scare his or her spirit from coming back to influence other clan members to commit suicide.
John Wafula, the LC3 chairperson of Bukokho Sub County has confirmed the incident but urged his locals to always report such family wrangles to police or local leaders to have them solved.
Wafula says that this year alone, he has recorded over 70 domestic violence cases which need serious police and other government relevant office intervention.
By press time, the body was still dangling on the tree waiting for police intervention.
