NAMISINDWA: Abandoned 3 Months Old Baby Burns into Ashes in House Fire

A 3 months old baby left alone by both parents in a grass thatched house has tragically been burnt into ashes after the house caught fire.

 

The unfortunate incident occurred in Buyasere Village, Buwabingwa parish, Namboko Sub County in Namisindwa district on Wednesday 6th March, 2024.

 

Police are now investigating the cause of the fire and the parents have been arrested to help in investigations under file number DEF 011/2024 of Namisindwa CPS.

 

According to James Katami, the  LC1 chairperson of Buyasera village, the child has been identified as Kakayi Shilla, a female aged 03 months.

 

He narrated that the incident happened when her parents, Syra Mwalye and wife Eunice Nabutiru went for a saving group meeting leaving the child alone asleep. He adds that unfortunately a fire came from nowhere lighting the house where the child was sleeping burning her beyond recognition.

 

ASP Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region spokesperson of police has confirmed the incident saying the parents of the deceased have been detained at Namisindwa central police station for further investigation.

 

He further said preliminary investigations indicate that the fire could have originated from a burning item that might have been left inside the house.

 

He cautioned parents and stakeholders to be vigilant and responsible while taking care of children while at home or any premises.
