The police of Terego district have arrested and detained a male adult teacher over allegations of defiling his own biological daughter of around 17 years of age.

Caleku Adio was arrested following a complaint filed at Katrini Police station on Tuesday 12th March 2024 under the Station Diary Reference number 05/12/03/2024.

Police said the report was made at Katrini police station by a social worker attached to Peace for Women, a community-based organization in West Nile.

Josephine Angucia, the police public relations officer for the West Nile region confirmed the incident and said the suspect aged 45 years, is a teacher attached to Wandi Primary School and a resident of Wandi teacher’s quarters, Anavu Parish, Katrini Sub County in Terego District.

“When this complaint was made to the police, a case of Aggravated Defilement was registered. Police arrested the suspect from the school and detained him at Katrini Police Station. The biological mother to the victim, Zena Bako was picked for a statement at the police station and she alleged that it was in the year 2022 when the victim complained to her paternal uncle that the suspect defiled her several times at various places including Yelulu village in Odupi sub-county, Terego district,” Angucia explained.

“The victim’s mother said that at the moment, the girl is staying with her elder sister in Omugo sub-county, Terego district. From there, she will be taken to Omugo Police Station for statement and medical examinations,” Angucia remarked.

She, however, observed that the suspect is still at Katrini Police Station pending transfer to Terego District Police Headquarters and Omugo HCIV for medical examinations and further investigations.

Angucia said for now, inquiries are still ongoing into the matter vide Katrini Police Station Diary Reference number 05/12/03/2024.
