National Resistance Movement NRM party village registrars from Tsekululu Sub County have today Thursday, 14th March, 2024 threatened to lay down their tools over pay.
NRM this week launched the exercise of updating registers commonly known as yellow books from village levels using party village registrars.
According to the guidelines, each village registrar is entitled to be paid Shs10,000 per day as allowance for five days amounting to Shs50,000.
According to Charles Namukongo, a village registrar at Tsekululu sub county, they are disappointed with the manner in which their sub County registrar has paid them only Shs20,000 claiming that it is their allowance for the whole week.
He says that during the training at the district before the exercise began, they were told that they were to be paid Shs50,000 for the whole week but they are wondering why things have changed.
Martin Samali, another village registrar from Tsekululu Sub County urged the district party chairperson to intervene in these matters warning that they will not continue with the exercise.
However, Aramazan Wabuko, the Namisindwa district NRM chairperson has expressed his disappointment with the situation saying their sub County registrar might be ignorant of the party guidelines.
He says that each village registrar is supposed to be paid 10,000/= each day after work for five days or get 50,000/= for the whole week based on the understanding between village registrar and their supervisor, the Sub County Registrar.
Wabuko called for calm among the village registrars of Tsekululu Sub County and of other sub counties in the district with similar outcries saying all are going to be sorted and will get their money.
Meanwhile, Peace Khalayi intending to contest for Namisindwa District Woman MP IN 2026 has urged NRM members and supporters to go and verify their names at village level during this ongoing exercise of register update.
She says that this will give them power to exercise their democracy by voting the candidate of their choice during party primary elections which will kick off this year countrywide.
