The ex-MP Aspirant for Busiro South Constituency in Wakiso district, Paul Owor, was on March 13, 2024 remanded to Luzira prison over alleged fraudulent land transaction worth Shs75m.
The MP loser appeared before Entebbe Chief Magistrate, Stella Maris Amabilis who read him four counts including forgery, uttering false documents, obtaining money by false pretense and conspiracy to commit a felony.
He is accused of fleecing Shs75m from Loyce Nahwera in pretext of selling land to her measuring 100x 100 in Namulanda zone, Kajjansi Town Council, Wakiso district.
However, in his plea, Paul Owor denied any wronging saying all the charges imposed against him are politically driven with intent to tarnish his image before his supporters.
The Entebbe Chief Magistrate remanded Paul Owor and his co-accused Geoffrey Opule to Luzira and Kigo prisons respectively till March 25,2024, when the duo return to court for ruling of their bail application.
It’s alleged that in July 2022, Paul Owor allegedly sold a piece of land measuring 100x 100 ft to Loyce Nahwera at Shs75m and later sold the same land to his co-accused Geoffrey Opule.
Owor claims to have bought the disputed land in Namulanda zone, Kajjansi Town Council, Wakiso district from the premier of Buganda Kingdom, Peter Charles Mayiga.
In a brief interview before being whisked away at Entebbe court, Owor said that: ” It’s unfortunate I am denied bail and it looks my accuser controls court yet bail is a constitutional right. The first and the second time I was told the state attorney was not around hence my bail application couldn’t be heard. The third time I was told my sureties were not in my residential area yet they are Ugandans with valid National Identity cards.”
” My accuser who claims to have paid me money I offered to refund her money more than the Shs.75m she paid me, and at first I offered to repay her Shs 100m, then increased it to Shs.130m but she refused and told me she wanted the disputed piece of land which I had already sold to Geoffrey Opule. My accuser went on to incarcerate Opule yet I am the one who sold the disputed land to him. This now looks like a sabotage to sabotage my political ambitions of vying again for Busiro South constituency come 2026 parliamentary polls,” Owor wondered.
Owor however assured his supporters that he has never been a land fraudster.
” I have been in prison for 90 days and I have also attempted to secure bail in High Court but unfortunately everything seems to be in favor of my accuser. I have been denied my freedom to speak to the extent that I am not allowed to talk to the press as the matter seems to be one sided,” he alleged.
