Locals of Dewe village in Kajjansi Town Council, Wakiso district, have decried high insecurity claiming it’s perpetuated by revelers who party at Lutembe beach.

The Area LC1 Chairperson, Deus Mbonye, who convened a village security meeting today, 15th March, 2024 said  for months, they have been experiencing security concerns in the area majorly escalated by revelers who party at Lutembe beach. He said these revelers when on their way to their respective homes turn rowdy and begin to rob innocent locals.

“We have conducted door to door operations at night but along the way, we meet night dancers who try to scare us away,” he said adding that apart from thugs, many children in the area have dropped out of school.

He appealed to parents to know their responsibilities warning that parents whose children will be found home during school days will be apprehended.

Businessman, Hajji Muhammad Kamoga, expressed concern on increased land grabbers in the area saying they have given locals bloody nose. He cited the land grabbers who had grabbed 102 hectares of land belonging to the orphans of the late Ausi Matovu who died a few years ago.

Hajji Muhammad Kamoga said some of the land grabbers have persistently threatened their victims to the extent of threatening to take away their dear lives.

Tony Kaweesa, a senior resident in Dewe village, said police has failed to arrest real criminals but instead arrest innocent persons who hide in corridors with their lovers to have a quickie. He added that the whole village has no lodges yet majority of locals are married but sexually active.

In reply to concerns raised by locals, the officer in charge of Bwebajja police station, ASP- Simon Arinaitwe asked locals to work together with police to stamp out the escalating insecurity in the area.

“I plan to manhunt all unregistered people in the area. All construction site workers must be registered and known by the area LC1 chairperson. Thieves are within us and once identified they will be apprehended,” he warned.

He also advised parents whose children have dropped out of school to enroll them in government schools because they are affordable.

“Betting centers also harbor thugs and hence should close before 11pm. The opening and closure time should be regulated,” he said adding that all boda riders should make sure they operate not beyond 11pm and should safeguard their motorcycles against thieves.
