NAMISINDWA: Police Officer Arrested For Shooting Dead ‘Armed’ Suspect, Colleague on the Run

Police has arrested one of their own on allegations of shooting a suspect on the head and killing him instantly, while the colleague is on the run.

 

The deceased is known as Ronald Chateka, a 24 year old resident of Nafwa village, Buwabwala Sub County in Namisindwa district.

 

According to Julie Namara, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Namisindwa, on Saturday 16th March, 2024 in the early morning, two police officers; Elizabeth Watila and Sam Kirop attached to Buwabwala police post went to arrest Cheteka over issues she didn’t reveal to the media.

 

She says that when the officers tried to arrest him, he resisted and attempted to harm them with a knife and that during the ensuing scuffle, one bullet was discharged hitting him on the head killing him instantly.

 

Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson has confirmed the incident saying they have arrested Elizabeth Watila and is in custody.

 

He says that Sam Kirop is currently on the run but police is hunting for him to be arrested and taken to courts of law.

 

Taitika also adds that the body of the deceased is at Mbale city mortuary for postmortem as investigations continue to find out how the bullet was released from the gun.
