Venerato Muhumuza , a 58-year-old policeman attached to Kashambya Police Station in Rukiga district who is currently on charges of raping a suspect was on Monday, 25th March, 2024 further remanded until April 5th.
The alleged incident happened on January 17, 2022, on the premises of Kashambya police station, where it is said that Muhumuza raped Caroline Kyatuheire, a 30-year-old woman from Nyarubisi village, Kitanga parish, Kashambya sub-county, who was arrested under suspicion of involvement in a theft case.
She was accused of running away with Shs1 million in cash and a mobile phone that belonged to a local mobile money agent, and she was later arrested.
Under the provisions of sections 123 and 124 of the Penal Code Act, the police officer Muhumuza was formally charged with assault.
The Kabale Resident District State Attorney Juliet Najunju, requested a postponement of the case, saying that key witnesses are still absent and following this, Justice Samuel Emokor, the Kabale High court judge, ordered Muhumuza to be further remanded until April 5.
