MBALE CITY
The Mbale City budget laying for FY2024/25 met a disastrous flop after both City Technocrats and Councilors boycotted the Special Session called for the same purpose.
The council meeting according to the order paper that was supposed to kick off at 10:00AM on Wednesday 27th March, 2024 with the main agenda of laying the budget saw the attendance of only 4 Councilors and City Town Clerk, Ambrose Ochen.
Mariam Nambuya, the Mbale City Council Speaker was forced to prematurely adjourn the council to Tuesday next week because of lack of quorum.
Khariate Kakai, the Mbale City Deputy Mayor told this publication that the main reason technocrats and councilors refused to attend the council sitting was because relevant documents were not given to them in time.
She says that documents were supposed to have been given to councilors a week before the council sitting for scrutiny but they were only given the documents the same day of the sitting.
She blamed the technical team for bringing all the confusion yet they knew that they should have distributed the relevant documents to councilors in time.
Josephine Lunyolo, secretary for finance also doubling as councilor representing East Division in Industrial City Division said this was a disservice to Mbale city tax payers.
She urged that Mbale city technical staff to apologize to the people of Mbale city for whatever transpired.
