A section of leaders and residents from West Budama County have re-awakened the campaign to have Nagongera-Busolwe road tarmacked arguing that the delay is negatively impacting on the area.
A group of six councilors from West Budama South organized a presser over the weekend at Comrade Resort Nagongera and have started the process of collecting signatures to petition the office of the Speaker of Parliament over the delay.
Led by the Kisoko sub county district councilor, Nicholas Ofwono and the Katajula district councilor Eddy Obella, the team says that the number of votes the National Resistance Movement will get in 2026 in the area will be determined by the number of pledges the Party has fulfilled in the area and the precursor will be the Nagongera-Buslowe road.
The Mwello district councilor Michael Okongo Choki said that the cause of under development in West Budama and Butaleja is poor road network that frighten away investors and equally the local population can’t find their way to lucrative markets because of the bad roads.
He noted that tarmacking of this road will open West Budama to the outside world.
Lillian Athieno, the Nagongera female district councilor said that government has been promising to work on this road for long noting that the delay is impacting on the party negatively.
James Onyango, a councilor representing Nagongera town council said that the dust being generated by Nagongera road is affecting the health of citizens hence asked the government to speed up the process of gravelling the road.
Eddy Obella Obella, the councilor of Katajula Sub County who was recently arrested for protesting the delayed tarmacking of the road said that they are pushing the government because to them, this road is a tool to foster development in Padhola.
He noted that recently the government announced that they will first start by working on 12KMs of this road but nothing has been done up to date hence cited some form of foolery.
Nicholas Ofwono, the Kisoko district councilor says that farmers are not realizing the benefits of parish development model in Padhola because they cannot access the market with their goods due to the bad nature of the road.
He notes that for 12 months now, the road has killed 14 travelers resulting from accidents hence calling upon the government to think about the people of Tororo.
