KALAKI

Despite scares from rainfall nothing could stop the already sensitized community to turn up in their big numbers to take the Yellow Fever jabs at Kadinya Trading Centre in Kalaki District on Wednesday, 3rd March, 2024.

The Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Jjuko Sulaiman Walugembe told people who were gathered at the jabbing center never to fear being vaccinated as the exercise is a national one where everybody from the age of 1-60 years are supposed to undergo.

Walugembe thanked President Yoweri Museveni for ensuring that citizens in Uganda receive Yellow Fever vaccination and urged the people to support President Museveni and all the government programs.

The District Vice Chairperson Pascal Engwau requested the government to extend the period for immunization as the seven days will not be enough.

He said Teso as a region is now receiving rains and this has made the turn up of people for immunization to be low since people are still in their gardens. “We need more days to have all people vaccinated,” he said.

Meanwhile, William Emunyu who represented the Chief Administrative Officer asked the District Health Officer, Harriet Miriam Atim to ensure that the exercise is extended to all the 49 primary schools to ensure that even the young learners who cannot walk long distances shall be immunized.

On the same note, Atim said, she has already dispatched all the medical staff to various centres where the yellow fever vaccination exercise is ongoing and urged the political leaders to help her team to drum people to go for the jab.

She explained that the yellow fever vaccination is only meant for those from one to 60 years while exempting those who are critically sick and the breastfeeding mothers and their babies.
