Government is to phase out boreholes in the entire Butaleja district as several natives decry hardships in maintaining boreholes for safe water.

This was revealed by Azalia Waiba, the assistant district engineer Butaleja on Thursday 4th April, 2024 in an exclusive interview with our reporter.

Waiba says government has opted to connect piped water throughout the district, describing it as cheaper and safer for consumption.

He revealed that piped water will be connected from Busiu, Mbale district to Busolwe town council, then will be distributed all over the district in two (2)years.

He said that piped water system is cheaper to manage, cheaper to treat for safety in consumption, and added that government will levy tax on it.

Waiba, said that government recommended the drilling of bore holes in all villages in Uganda, but complained about maintenance of the water sources because there is underfunding.

The Engineer also revealed that Mugulu, in Busolwe Sub County and other parts of Butaleja are too rocky, calling for piped water system as a solution.
