Two people have been confirmed dead while four others sustained serious injuries in a nasty accident that occurred in Arua city on Sunday evening.

The accident, according to police, occurred along Arua City-Koboko Road in Manibe Ward, Ayivu East Division at around 7:40 pm on April 7, 2024.

It involved motor vehicles with registration number UAD 644V Toyota corolla white in colour and another motor vehicle with registration number UBG 377Y Toyota Harrier also white in colour.

Josephine Angucia, the North Western police spokesperson identified the deceased as Jamal Abdul Maliki, an employee with Koboko district Local Government who was a passenger in a motor vehicle with registration number UAD 644V.

She, however, said the second yet to be identified victim is the male driver of the same motor vehicle.

Meanwhile Angucia said the injured are one female and three male adults whose names are also yet to be established.

“It is alleged that the driver of motor vehicle with registration number UBG 377Y was moving from Koboko side to Arua Town and lost control hence colliding with the driver of Motor vehicle with registration number UAD 644V that was coming from opposite direction, from Arua City heading to Koboko side,” Angucia said.

“Preliminary investigations indicate the cause of the accident to be carelessness and inconsiderate use of motor vehicle by the driver of vehicle number UBG 377Y Toyota Harrier who left his lane and collided with another vehicle. Police acted by visiting and documenting the scene, towed both motor vehicles to Arua City Central Police Station pending inspection by the inspector of vehicles, conveyed the deceased bodies to Arua Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem, and rushed the victims to Arua hospital for treatment,” Angucia added.

She said inquiries into the matter are still ongoing under Arua City Central Police Station TAR 94/2024.

“We urge motorists to be careful on highways and abide by traffic regulations all the time in order to prevent such deadly accidents,” Angucia appealed.
