Three mosquito spray operators have been arrested over allegations of stealing chemicals in the ongoing spray exercise against mosquitoes in Butaleja district.
Butaleja district last month launched a massive spray exercise of mosquitoes as a way of reducing malaria cases.
The 3 operators, who were arrested today, Thursday, 11th April, 2024 are from the sub counties of Kachonga-Bufuja town council, and Himutu Sub County.
Henry Isogoli, the District Health Inspector also doubling as the focal person of the spray exercise says the three officers were picked after getting allegations that they are selling chemicals.
He says that police picked them with exhibits as they were selling the chemical to farmers to use for spraying groundnuts against pests.
Michael Higenyi, the district chairman says that stealing chemicals is rampant in Butaleja district, despite a series of warnings on the spray operators.
Higenyi said that the three are going to serve as an example to the rest who are in the field.
The chairman also warned the public against resisting the spray exercise saying this is going to reduce the spread of malaria.
By press time, the suspects were locked up in Butaleja police cells awaiting to be produced in court.
