SIRONKO
The LCV Chairperson of Sironko district Livingston Giluli has asked government to explain the delay on Namagumba Budadiri Nalugugu circular road works.
The 39 Kilometers Namagumba Budadiri Nalugugu circular road is one of the roads which parliament approved for construction in this financial year of 2023/2024 using USD77.74 million loan.
In January this year, the chain’s contractor meant to construct the road was allocated Mutufu and Buwalasi government lands by Sironko district leadership to be used as a site where to construct their offices and keep materials.
While speaking during the women’s day celebration last week at Mafudu primary school premises, Giluli said that the contractor assured the district leadership that works were going to commence immediately after giving them a site which has never happened up now.
Giluli says that what has annoyed him as a chairperson is that even workers have disappeared from the site without any reason.
Nathan Masereje, one of the elders from Busita Sub County in Sironko district says that the delay in construction of the road is affecting the people of Sironko in terms of development.
He says that the entire road is currently very impassable due to the current rains yet Sironko is one of the agricultural districts in Bugisu meaning farmers are getting challenges in transporting their agricultural products like onions, Irish among others.
However, Denis Ephraim Balwaniregha, the Sironko Resident District Commissioner while speaking to our reporter on Tuesday, 16th April, 2024 on phone asked the LCV chairperson and locals in Sironko district to be calm saying the contractor has not shunned the works.
He says that the contractor is still waiting for the government to send a consultant as required by the law.
Isaiah Sasaga Wanzira, the Member of Parliament representing Budadiri East constituency in Sironko district says that government should come out with a clear explanation to people about what has caused to the delay.
He says that the road has passed through a number of national budgets for many years but has never been worked on adding that this has made them fear that the government may dodge working on the road again.
The RDC also says that according to arrangements they have, the government was supposed to first compensate people from Nalugugu to Budadiri 12 kilometers out of 39kilometers of the whole road which has not yet started before works commencing.
He urged leadersĀ and residents to be calm saying works are soon going to start after compensation and the Consultant finishing his work.
