UCU Lecturer, Okoit Crushed Into Pieces By Cement Mixer Truck In Nkumba

Details have emerged from today’s fatal accident along Kampala – Entebbe Highway around Nkumba with a Uganda Christian University Lecturer confirmed dead.

 

Raphael Okoit was crushed inside his Mitsubishi RVR, Registration number, UBQ 371P which he had just bought four days ago by cement Mixer Truck number UAN 836D belonging to Seyani Company early today, 17th April, 2024.

 

A lawyer and lecturer Okoit was on his way to court when the cement truck overturned crushing into his car. At the time of the accident, both cars were heading to Entebbe.

 

A preliminary report shows that the said vehicles were in the same direction facing Entebbe from Kampala and while at Nkumba traffic lights waiting to be released by the lights, motor vehicle UAN 836B a concrete mixer from behind lost control & failed to brake.

 

As the driver tried to dodge the vehicles in front of him, he hit a pavement on the side of the road and overturned falling onto Subaru UBQ 371P killing instantly it’s driver one Okoit Raphael aged 34 years, a lawyer working with MALDEF Advocates and a resident of Seeta.

 

Its reported that the driver of the concrete truck failed to break at the traffic lights and attempted to get out of the lane but unfortunately the heavy truck failed and eventually fell on top of  the Subaru and in the process the cars that were in front of the Subaru were pushed further.

 

The accident took place at Nkumba University traffic lights when Okiot was waiting for the green traffic lights to release all the cars.

 

Following the accident, traffic was paralysed along Entebbe/Kampala Highway as a number of drivers were seen driving off the main road for fear of losing their lives.

 

Later police arrived at the scene of accident and efforts were underway to tow away concrete truck pull the wreckage of the Subaru car and also recover the deceased’s body that had been reduced to pieces.

 

Okoit’s wife, Kyenjojo Grade one Magistrate Her worship Faith Irene Kwagala made the death announcement this morning saying burial arrangements will be shared later.

 

The deceased was identified as Counsel Raphael Okoit who was traveling from Entebbe heading towards Kampala city.

 

Meanwhile, the deceased’s family has made death announcement of their beloved on most of Entebbe platforms saying burial arrangements would soon be communicated.
