The Muslim community in Bulweta Ward, Bukonde, Mbale Northern City Division, is excited after receiving information that Buwamwangu Twale Mosque is to receive 400 iron sheets from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).

The mosque, measuring 77 in length and 67 in width, serves as the headquarters for 59 mosques in Bukonde, ranks second only to Nakaloke Center Mosque in the city.

This was revealed by Ms. Patricia, a Community Development Officer (CDO) in the office of the Minister for Northern Uganda on Wednesday, 24th April, 2024 saying she came to Mbale to evaluate the mosque.

During her visit, Patricia recognized the community’s earnest efforts and approved 400 iron sheets instead of the initially requested 450, citing the mosque’s size.

She said, “Iron sheets are available, transport is there and you qualify. In one month you’re getting your Iron sheets. Why stand in the way of completing the house of God?”

Sheikh Masai Abdu Nasulu, a member of the mosque’s construction committee, confirms that a letter has been written to the Prime Minister of Uganda seeking assistance to complete the mosque’s construction.

Masai told our reporter that they requested for 450 iron sheets and other assistance but an official from OPM has pledged to offer them only 400 iron sheets but they are very happy for it.

Sheikh Abdul Aziz Saad Gibedya, the Sheikh Twale of Bukonde, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Muslim community for the efforts.

Gibedya said the Muslim community has faced challenges during prayers, particularly during rainy weather. However, with assistance in roofing the mosque, they will be immensely grateful.

“I urge all beneficiaries of this mosque and those in other areas of Mbale Northern City Division to continue supporting the development “He added.
