An unimaginable act has happened in Buhonge Village, Buyanga Sub County in Busia District where a 15 year old girl was first defiled and impregnated by her paternal uncle and the pregnancy discharged.
The grandfather after helping the girl to abort his son’s pregnancy at Buwembe Health Centre started having carnal knowledge of the same victim two months later.
According to IP Moses Mugwe, the Bukedi South Police Spokesperson, the grandfather, Peter Egesa was on Thursday, 25th April, 2024 consequently been charged for aggravated trafficking in persons and aggravated defilement.
Mugwe says that in October 2023 at Buhonge village, Buyanga Sub County, Egesa defiled Gloria, a daughter of Misanya Susan (Egesa’s daughter) who was raised by suspect and complainant.
Gloria was a pupil of Maybe Primary School and she dropped out in 2022 in primary five. In May 2023, Gloria was raped by her maternal uncle, Wabwire Joseph and she got pregnant.
When Egesa learnt of pregnancy, he took the victim to Buwembe health Centre where the pregnancy was terminated.
After two (2) months Egesa started having unlawful carnal knowledge with Gloria and when he realized that the victim was carrying his pregnancy, in February 2024, Egesa shifted to Wakawaka Village in Mayuge District together with the victim.
At Wakawaka in Mayuge District, the two were staying in a rented room as husband and wife. The mother of the victim (Susan) was aware of their stay and could visit them.
When Egesa got poor, he started calling his wife (Rosemary) asking her to leave her home in Buhonge Village so that he (Egesa) could come and sell his land to enable him get money for his upkeep with Gloria at Wakawaka.
“Upon getting the threats of sending her away from her home, Rosemary decided to take a report to Buyanga Police Post where a case of Defilement, Incest and Domestic Violence was registered,” says Mugwe.
The Police of Buyanga Police Post acting on the registered report, commenced investigations that led to the arrest of Misanya Susan (mother of the victim- who doubles up as a daughter of the suspect) and she was charged of procuring defilement and through her, the Egesa was also arrested and victim recovered.
Statements were obtained from complainant, witnesses and suspect then transferred to CPS Busia where the same matter was captured vide CRB 413/2024.
While at CPS Busia other thorough Investigations such as medical examination of both the victim and suspect were done and results were documented and attached to the file, where it was established that the victim is five (5) months pregnant, and is 15 yrs old.
She also affirmed the pregnancy to be belonging to the Grand Father, Egesa Peter.
The file was compiled and forwarded to RSA for perusal and it was suctioned and on Thursday, the 25/04/2024, Egesa Peter (the Grand Father) to the victim, together with the mother to the victim one Misanya Susan have been arraigned in Courts of laws for prosecution.
