Residents of Bubulo village, Bwambigwa Parish, Namboko Sub County in Namisindwa District are still leaving in shock after one of their own raped his biological mother and then used a hammer to clobber her to death.
According to Safu Sitangi, an eyewitness, Wafula Mulumeti, 34 years of age raped and killed his mother, Ruth Mulumeti, 67 years of age on Tuesday, 30th April, 2024.
He says that Mulumete invited his mother to his home and she realized he had other groups of youths inside his house smoking opium and chewing marijuana.
When she reached his house, they closed her inside and sexually abused her then after he hacked her with a hammer on the head killing her on the spot.
Julius Wopucho, the area councilor says that after hearing the cry of the old woman, he rushed and found her dead prompting him to make an alarm which attracted neighbours who responded with pangas, hoes, stones and bricks with the aim of killing Mulumeti.
He says that his colleagues took off and they managed to arrest Mulumeti whom he saved from the angry mob by taking him to the Butiru Police Post in the neighboring Manafwa district.
He says that the body of the deceased was taken by police for postmortem but Mulumeti is currently being detained at Butiru police post.
Emma Bwayo, the Namisindwa district youth councilor has urged parents to properly raise their children by always giving them a piece of counseling.
He also warned youths against drug abuse in the area which caused all this.
However, getting a comment from Rogers Taitika the Elgon region police spokesperson was futile as he was busy in a meeting when contacted on phone.
