The Managing Director, Uganda Bureau of Statistics has come out to reveal the daily allowances to be paid to Enumerators and their Supervisors during the 10 days Census exercise.

Speaking to the Media on 8th May, 2024, just a day away from the Census Night, Dr. Chris N. Mukiza said that Supervisor will be paid Shs60,000 daily while the enumerators shall receive Shs50,000 daily.

“So Enumerators are expected to go home with Shs500,000 after the exercise and Supervisors Shs600,000,” says Dr. Mukiza.

These payments will not be taxed because they are allowances for Census exercise says Dr. Mukiza

Supervisors are earning the extra Shs10,000, they will also conduct the Community Questionnaire.

The 2024 National Population and Housing Census starts on 10th May, ending on 20th May, 2024.

Dr. Mukiza’s public revelation follows different complaints from Enumerators and Supervisors across the country complaining that they are being told about varying allowances.

In a letter to District Heads across the country also dated 8th May, Dr. Mukiza says, there was an error in the appointment letters for Enumerators and Supervisors where it was indicated that Shs50,000 and Shs60,000 will be paid to the persons employed through out the 10 day exercise.

“The figures indicated in the appointment letters are rates for each day NOT for the entire numeration period,” wrote Dr. Mukiza

There was also a complaint of UBOS scrapping the transport allowance for Supervisors and Enumerators during the 9 day training exercise, however, Dr. Mukiza did not address this particular concern.
