WAKISO
Shock and grief today April 15,2024, engulfed locals of Namulanda Zone in Kajjansi Town Council, Wakiso district after a fire outbreak claimed six sudanese children aged between 2-16.
Locals say the incident occured in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.
The Kajjansi town Council mayor, Bashir Kayondo, believes that if police fire brigade had arrived in time at the scene of the fire, it would have been to able to save the lives of some children.
He noted that efforts by locals to rescue the lives of the deceased children were futile due to the lack of access points by fire brigade trucks.
Kayondo called upon locals to follow the Building Control Act by considering leaving a space between their residences for easy access to their homes in case of a fire outbreak.
The area councilor Joseph Ssemogerere, castigated the police fire brigade for delaying to respond to the fire incident and hailed locals for swiftly intervening to put out the fire though police joined them later.
The Kampala police spokesperson Luke Owesigire, confirmed the incident saying the exact cause of the fire incident was due to bad electrical connections that resulted into fire spreading all over the house hence claiming lives of innocent children.
