Namisindwa District Receives Foot, Mouth Disease Vaccines

The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries has donated 20,000 doses of foot and mouth disease vaccines to Namisindwa district as a way of curbing the spread of the disease.

 

This was revealed today, Tuesday, 28th May, 2024 by David Mityelo, the Namisindwa District Acting Production Officer while updating District Councilors during the passing of the FY2024/2025 budget.

 

He said that the vaccines were received by the district on Monday, 27th May and a massive vaccination exercise by extension workers is going to kick off soon at sub county levels.

 

Mityelo also revealed that the disease has been reducing slowly due to tight quarantine they have put on butchermen in the district and serious inspection by extension workers in villages to make sure that nobody smuggles meat from outside Namisindwa.

 

Namisindwa district is one of the districts that was hit by foot and mouth disease and the ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries declared quarantine in February, 2024.

 

Emma Bwayo, the Namisindwa male youth councilor urged the locals to obey the quarantine until the district will be declared foot and mouth disease free.

 

He adds that it’s true parents currently want to sell their animals to get fees for their children but they can’t due to the quarantine.

 

Dorothy Walukawu Nebokhe, the Namisindwa District Speaker warned butcheries which are smuggling meat to stop saying the disease will not be fought successively.

 

Free Maina, the Secretary Finance read a budget of over 42 billion shillings for FY2024/25 and IT was passed by the council unanimously.
