Inaugural Mbale Ladies Golf Open Tourney Kicks Off at Mbale Golf Club

For the first time ever the Mbale golf club has kicked off its first edition of the Mbale Ladies open tournament at Mbale sports club golf course, marking the first time the tournament has been conducted in the region.


The two day event kicked off today’s morning Friday 31st May, 2024.


Speaking to Journalists on Thursday at the Mbale Sports Club House, Gloria Mbaguta, the secretary of the Uganda golf union says the major aim of the women’s golf open in Bugisu is to tap, nurture and grow talent among young golfers across the country.


Over 50 lady golfers from Uganda and Kenya (Kitale Club and Kakamega club) and 10 junior golfers are competing in the world amateur golf ranking in the 54- hole golf course in one of the biggest tournaments hosted in Mbale.


The event has also attracted professional golfers in the country from the Uganda golf union like Flavia Namakala, Uganda number one and Eva Magala, former Federation president.


The Mbale sports club president, ‘Uthman Mugoya has appreciated the union for hosting the event in Mbale and the financial support where the winner takes home a grand prize of 3 million shilling cash.


 “This is the very first ladies open for professionals, the union decided this to be first hosted in Mbale and they have financially supported us because the first professional to win this tournament will be rewarded with three million shillings,” stated Mugoya.
