Gov’t Contracts Turkish Company to Construct Hoima Stadium Ahead Of Afcon 2027

The government of Uganda has signed a contract with Turkish company M/S Summa to construct a 20,000-seater multi-purpose stadium in Hoima for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

 

Uganda, Co-Hosting with Kenya and Tanzania, plans to use Hoima Stadium for AFCON matches.

 

The stadium, to be completed within 18 months, must be ready by December 2025.  Ministry of Works and Transport supported by the Afcon Sub-Committee on infrastructure, will supervise the project.

 

The contract signing ceremony, hosted by First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Mrs. Janet Museveni, took place at State House Nakasero on Friday, June 7, 2024.

 

Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel signed on behalf of the government of Uganda and the National Council Of Sports, while Selim Bora signed for M/S SUMMA. The process was overseen by John Bosco Suza, Director of Legal Advisory Services, representing the Attorney General.

 

Prior to the contract signing, Minister of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development Judith Nabakooba handed over a 34.9-acre land title for Hoima City Stadium to Mrs. Janet Museveni.
