KABERAMAIDO: Hungry Hospital In-Charge Arrested For Stealing Government Drugs

Police at Kaberamaido Central Police Station are holding a health In-Charge of Kaburepoli health center II, Jonathan EkouĀ  for stealing government drugs worth millions of shillings.

 

It’s the second time government medicine is being stolen at the same facility.

 

The previous happened on the 17th November 2023 where a nurse and the hospital askari was arrested and charged with negligence of duty.

 

According David Otabong, the district police commander Kaberamaido, Ekou a resident of Abirabira A in Aperikira Sub county Kaberamaido district was arrested following an intelligence based operation jointly with police in Soroti City West.

 

He was arrested in Pamba Ward on the 6th of June 2023 at the house of one identified only as Onyambu attempting to sell the UG medicine.

 

Ekou also mentioned one of the GISO’s in Soroti in their racket. He said he was pushed to steal the medicine since he had not been paid for three months.

 

Ekou told police that he smuggled medicine out of the hospital using a box of 36 packets of lurmatem, 29 MRDT, 15 Packets of commefarn and the official stamp of Kaburepoli health center II.

 

Ekou testified that he stole the medicines two days after the National Medical Stores delivering medicine to the facility.

 

He is now detained at Kaberamaido Central Police station with exhibits of government medicines he stole. His case has been registered under CRB 181 of 2024 and is charged with theft of government stores.

 

Meanwhile, Onyambu and the yet to be known GISO in Soroti is at large as police is tip toeing on them.
