KAMPALA: Man Captured on Video Siphoning Fuel From Car at Mulago Arrested

A key suspect of a gang that has been siphoning fuel from cars at Mulago mortuary washing bay, Busia zone, Wandegeya parish Kawempe Division has been arrested.

 

This was revealed by Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson in a statement released today, 14th June, 2024.

 

Onyango says the arrest follows a video footage that circulated on social media showing three people siphoning fuel from a vehicle, double cabin grey in colour.

 

He says that the key suspect in that video, Mutebi Peter aged 30 years, unemployed and a resident of Quorta zone, Kyebando parish, Kawempe Division in Kampala District was arrested on Thursday, 13 Jun 24 at about 1200 hours.

 

His accomplices who are still at large have been identified as; Asiku, Lubwama, Mawanda John, Emma and Kalema.

 

“Intelligence reveals over 20 vehicles are siphoned on daily basis and the fuel is sold out to boda boda riders at Shs 5,000 per two litres whereas diesel is sold in Bwaise,” says Onyango.

 

He says Police recovered exhibits from the scene while the suspect has been charged with Stealing from Motor vehicle.

 

Onyango reveals that further Intelligence reveals that the Drivers of the said vehicles connive with criminals to siphon the fuel from their bosses’ vehicles adding that the criminal activity has taken long at the same area with full knowledge of managers of the washing bay.
