The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) engineering brigade is expected to take over the construction of an anatomy block in Soroti University of Science and Technology.
This was confirmed to the media by Her Excellency, the Vice President, Maj rtd Jesica Rose Alupo Epel on Sunday, 16th June, 2024 during the thanksgiving service for the Rt. Rev. Kosea Odongo, five years since his enthronement as Bishop of Soroti Diocese.
According to Alupo, the government through the ministry of Education and sports has earmarked 9 billion shillings for the completion of an anatomy block in the financial year 2024/2025.
The structure was abandoned by RUP Engineers limited who were earlier contacted to undertake its construction.
She says the president directed the Engineering brigade to take over the work because the private contractor left the site without communicating to the University leadership.
Alupo says by July 2024 the UPDF Engineering brigade will sign an MOU with Soroti University to do the work because they have shown competence.
She therefore directed the Resident City Commissioner Soroti City Peter Pex Paak to ensure that all government projects are implemented.
