SERERE
Police in Serere central police station in Serere district are currently holding one suspect in custody for allegedly killing his wife.
The suspect identified as Nsereko Jimmy, a Mukenyi by tribe, Fisherman and resident of Mugalama Landing site in Serere District was arrested on allegations of Aggravated murder by domestic Violence that occurred on 22nd June, 2024 at around 11:00PM.
According to Edson Obukulem, the East kyoga police spokesperson, the suspect came from his place of work at Mugalama Landing site in Serere District and assaulted his wife from her own home.
He says the two have been leaving a separate life for over one year.
The deceased, Ijangolet Betty, 40 years old and a business woman of Aturia Village, Kabulabula Parish, Kagwara Town Council in Serere District has been staying with the four (4) children whom she had with the suspect.
Obukulem says after the assault, the victim was rushed to Kagwara Health Center III where she was pronounced dead and later on, the body was transferred to Serere Health Center IV for postmortem.
He said the suspect has been arrested and he is being held at CPS Serere as inquiries are underway.
“We wish to caution the public to desist from these kind of Violence and rather to report such matters to the relevant Authority”, said Obukulem.
