Police in Butaleja district on orders of Jimmy Nambiro, the Assistant Resident District commissioner have today Thursday, 27th June, 2024 arrested a headmaster and two teachers of Nampologoma Primary School in Nabiganda Town Council in Butaleja district.

George Odeng and his two teachers; Yusufu Owere and one known only as Kharite have been arrested for allegedly sending children back home who have failed to pay school dues.

Nampologoma primary school is a Government aided school with an estimated enrolment of 3000 learners.

Nambiro told this website that he was tipped off by one of the parents whose children had been sent away from school for not paying Ten thousand shillings meant for Development of the school.

Nambiro, says that  the arrest came after the  suspects have been over charging fees of between 50,000/ to 100,000/= at the expense of denying children lessons yet Government gives grants to all schools for Development and fees for all learners.

Nambiro cautioned school leaders to desist from sending children back home but find a way of engaging defaulting parents.

Mafumo Adonia, the Deputy Resident District commissioner told our reporter that it is unlawful to charge money from learners in a Government aided school. He thanked Jimmy Nambiro for acting very fast.

Mafumo noted that they found out that the problem starts from where stakeholders do not know their responsibilities in the education trend.

By press time the suspects were still at Butaleja central police station.
