The Bukedi North Region has been shaken by a disturbing incident of mob violence that resulted in the tragic death of Okioto Denis, a 23-year-old Etesot in Pallisa district.

According to the Samuel Semewo, the Bukedi North police sportsperson, the incident occurred on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at around 6:30 PM in Okutai village, Kadesoko Parish, Pallisa district.

The lifeless body of Okioto was discovered in a pool of blood by the Officer-in-Charge of Kibale Police Station, ASP Niwagaba Innocent.

The events leading up to the killing began a day earlier, on June 27, when a goat was reportedly stolen from the home of a resident named Okimati in Kalaraka village, Kadesoko Parish.

Okimati reported the theft to the police and requested the use of a canine unit to track down the perpetrators.

The police investigation led them to the house of Okioto Denis, who was not present at the time. However, when Denis returned home later that day, he was not welcomed by the residents, who warned him not to continue staying in the area.

Tragically, the situation escalated, and a mob of villagers formed, chasing Okioto all the way to Okutai village, Kadesoko Parish, where he was brutally killed using sharp objects and large sticks.

The police were informed of the incident, and ASP Niwagaba Innocent rushed to the scene, only to find Okioto already dead.

The crime scene was thoroughly processed, examined, and documented by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the Directorate of Scenes of Crime, and a team of detectives from the Homicide Squad.

Relevant witness statements have been recorded, and the lifeless body of Okioto Denis has been transported to the Pallisa District Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Police say an investigation into the case is underway under reference number CRB 276/2024.
