The State Minister for Agriculture at the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries, Hon. Fred Bwino Kyakulaga has advised fishermen to adopt Fish Farming.
Kyakulaga made the call on Friday 28/06/2024, while presiding over the 38th graduation ceremony of graduands who completed their studies in various disciplines at Entebbe Fisheries Training institute.
He challenged fishers at Bugonga fishing site to practice fish farming by digging up personal fish ponds in addition to engaging in crop production such as coffee farming which he says nowadays is profitable and earns government reasonable revenue or foreign exchange.
He also strongly cautioned fishers plying trade at Bugongo fishing site in Entebbe Municipality to desist from fishing immature fish saying it affects the fisheries sector.
The Minister who commended management of Fisheries institute for renovating the institute dilapidated structures to a desired level revealed that government is working on improving water transport across the shores of Lake Victoria through provision of modern vessels that will facility movement of people and their merchandise from one point to another.
He added that government has finalized plans to construct a modem swimming pool at the fisheries training institute to facilitate training of marine divers.
Minister Kyakulaga advised fishers at Bugongo fishing site to stick to fishing mature fish arguing that they fetch huge profits as opposed to immature ones.
