Leaders from Namisindwa district have officially launched the construction of Namikhoma Bridge.
Namikhoma Bridge is located on the streams of Namikhoma connecting Lwakhakha town council to Bumwoni Sub County.
According to Robert Mukelule, the acting district engineer, the construction works will cost Shs330M under Development funds program.
He adds that the money is for the last financial year2023/24 saying works are going to start this week and will take one month strictly.
Jackson Wakwaika, the LCV chairperson of Namisindwa district says that this year alone, they have lost four people and four animals during flooding of that Namikhoma stream.
He says that this bridge is going to help people cross safely even during flooding of that stream and since the area is agricultural, people will cross with their products to sell in different markets.
Imran Muluga, the Namisindwa Resident District Commissioner called for quality work.
He urged the locals to embrace the project and own it saying it’s them going to benefit more than other people in the district.
Shaban Damulina, a resident of Lwakhakha town council expressed his happiness with the project but urged the contractor to consider area youths for labor such that they can also benefit.
Salimu Wamoka, another area resident urged the district to allow local leaders and locals to form a committee which will monitor works there such that no shoddy works are done.
