The Chairperson Busoga Growers Cooperative Union has been arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court on Charges of causing financial loss and conspiracy to defraud government of over Shs4billion.
Basoga Charles who was arrested by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit is alleged to have caused the financial loss between 2018 and 2023.
A statement from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit briefly states that Basoga and others still at large between 2018 and 2023 conspired and defrauded over Shs4 billion meant for war loss compensation by government of Uganda to Busoga Growers Cooperative Union.
Basoga was remanded till 1st August 2024 when he will reappear in court for mention and bail application.
He joins the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Geraldine Ssali Busuulwa, three Members of Parliament, a Lawyer and senior Ministry official over related charges. The latter group is on remand over allegations of stealing Shs3.4B meant for war loss compensation by government to Buyaka Growers Cooperative Society.
